The skills in this list replace the Armed skill from Modos 2, and the Unarmed skill remains unchanged. Each skill represents familiarity with a broad category of weapons that vary by size and style, but all of which have the same general type. A character wielding a hybrid weapon benefits from skill points only when wielding the portion of the weapon to which those skill points apply. The skills are:
Axe: any weapon with a wide blade designed for cleaving.
Bow: applies to all weapons that utilize a bolt of some sort – darts, bows, crossbows, atl-atl, javelins.
Hammer: includes all crushing weapons, like maces, mauls, and clubs.
Spear: for weapons designed to pierce, and generally featuring long hafts – polearms, quarterstaves, morningstars, and flails (if the spikes are sufficiently pointy).
Sword: long-bladed weapons intended for piercing but capable of slashing. Includes knives, daggers, and two-handers.
Unarmed: for hand-to-hand combat… and other body parts.
Whip: for all weapons that rely on length and flexibility, like bullwhips, chains, and…tentacles?
