Realizing that one of Modos 2’s best features is its modularity, and that Crit Hit 3 (where I’m running a game next weekend) has an “old school” theme this year, I decided to add an old-school rules module to next weekend’s game.
1st order of business: THAC0! What’s more old-school than THAC0? This necessitated adding Armor Classes to characters as well, but the transition is seamless. However, adding Armor Class means that characters can defend without using an action, so an attack that doesn’t To Hit will still deal 1 damage, versus zero on a Pro defense.
2nd order of business: tables! Each character gets a unique table to roll on, bringing the grand total of tables that each player needs to worry about to two. Well, one really, since the Guide spends way more time using the Difficulty table than players do.
3rd order of business: player agency! Each player will be allowed to create one Old School rule during the course of the game.
These rules will result in a truly unique experience for everyone involved…and why not…I’ll just have to post the newly-created rules module after the game.
Happy gaming!
